Ethical Citizens for Minnesota's Future
Phase I: A Vision For Our Time
Thank you for showing interest in this important initiative. A statewide forum was held December 1, 2009 in Chaska where more than 45 stakeholders met to address “Ethical Citizens for Minnesota’s Future.” After opening comments by the Center for Academic Excellence, attendees were asked “What’s the greatest challenge facing our state and our nation?” This segued into a revealing video clip which set the stage for the day’s discussion. Dennis Cheesebrow, founder and CEO of TeamWorks International, facilitated this exchange and guided attendees through small and whole group discussions. As a result of the day’s interaction, CAE will move forward with phase II of the process focusing on the goals outlined at the forum.
Ethics education at first glance appears to be simple, reasonable, needed and attainable. Yet ensuring ethics in education describes a reality, which is complex, urgent, contradictory and challenging to implement. Bridging the differences between simple and complex, reasonable and urgent, needed and contradictory is attainable and will be challenging. Creating a shared vision of ethics education in practice with real impact, with key shifts transforming the current reality of public schools to a new vision of ethics, learning, service and readiness for a real and global world is the ultimate goal.
